Four Trailblazers scored in double figures, but it was not enough to overcome a big fourth-quarter UT Arlington blitz as Utah Tech women's basketball was handed its fourth-straight WAC loss, 86-67, on Saturday afternoon inside the Burns Arena.
How it happened
The Trailblazers (5-15/1-6 WAC) weathered a hot UT Arlington start, during which the Lady Mavs knocked down seven of their first 10 shots with four 3-pointers to open up a 17-10 lead midway through the first quarter.
Utah Tech freshman forward
Paige Cofer kept her side in it with a pair of early 3-pointers, while
Brie Crittendon drained a perimeter jumper of her own that pulled the Blazers to within four at 17-13 with 4:18 to play in the period.
UTA (12-7/7-1 WAC) later extended to a nine-point advantage, but Utah Tech closed the frame with a 9-3 spurt to make it a one-possession game at 27-24 after a
Chardonnay Hartley lay-in right before the quarter horn.
The Lady Mavs kept the Trailblazers at bay throughout the second period and eventually pushed its lead to 10 at 56-46 with just under six minutes remaining in the third quarter after two Aspen Thornton free throws.
Emily Isaacson came back down on Utah Tech's next possession and buried her first 3-pointer of the day, which sparked a quick 9-2 Blazer run that trimmed the deficit to 58-55 with 3:18 to go in the stanza.
Utah Tech stayed within striking distance and would again pull to within three at 64-61 following a Hartley bucket to open the fourth quarter scoring.
However that would be as close as the Trailblazers would get as UTA rattled off 11-straight points to push its lead back to double digits at 75-61 after the second of Alexsyah Goudeau's consecutive treys.
The Blazers managed to claw back to within 10 at 77-67 thanks to another Isaacson perimeter jumper with 4:54 to go.
Unfortunately that would be the final shot Utah Tech would hit as the Lady Mavs scored the game's final nine points to salt away the road victory and remain in second place in the WAC standings.
Numbers to know
