Utah Tech men's soccer was dispatched by Seattle U 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Championship Field.
The Redhawks struck early, scoring on a penalty kick in the third minute. Graduate Taketo Onodera converted the PK into the bottom-left corner of the net. Sophomore

Utah Tech goalkeeper
Stockton Short was kept busy throughout the match. Ten minutes later, Short dove to his right to stop a shot by Onodera and earn his first save.
In the 18th minute, sophomore
Manu Monserrat fired a shot to the top left corner of the net, but SU goalkeeper Charlie Lanphier grabbed the ball for his first save.
On a breakaway in the 34th minute, redshirt junior
Bryce Backlund found his way into the box and smashed a shot to the bottom right of the net but Lanphier got in the way.
Junior

Short survived a barrage of shots in the 64th minute as two were blocked and Short earned saves on another two.
Redshirt junior
Ethan Bell headed the ball toward the upper 90 but just missed on the left side of the goal in the 67th minute.
From a quickly-taken goal kick in the 83rd minute, Utah Tech nearly got a one-on-one chance with Lanphier but the Trailblazers were called offside.
In the final 20 minutes, Short tallied another five saves to deny the Redhawks an insurance goal.
UT's final chance on goal came in the 86th minute when Backlund tried a shot to the left side of the goal but was thwarted by Lanphier again.
Short totaled 11 saves in the match, the most by a UT keeper in the DI era, the second-most saves in a single game in Utah Tech history and the most since Tyler Walters logged 12 at Hawai'i Pacific in 2011.
Seattle U (6-3-3, 3-0-1 WAC) outshot the Trailblazers 23-11, including a 12-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Redhawks also committed more fouls, 16-7, and were caught offsides three times compared to twice by UT. Utah Tech (1-8-3, 0-3-1 WAC) won the save battle 11-4.
