Trailblazers Fall at Adams State Friday Night, 3-1

Dixie State dropped its second-straight RMAC road match in a 3-1 loss at Adams State Friday night inside Plachy Hall.

Down two starters due to injury, the Trailblazers (8-5/3-2 RMAC) came away with a split of the first two sets as the Grizzlies (4-10/1-4 RMAC) claimed the opening stanza by a 25-15 count, before DSU squared the match with a 25-20 triumph in set two.

Dixie State looked to be in command late in the third set as the Blazers opened up a 20-15 lead, but the Grizzlies countered with a 10-3 run to wrestle the set away, 25-23, to take a 2-1 advantage in the match. ASU kept the momentum going in the fourth, scoring nine of the first 12 points in the frame and would lead by as many as eight points before settling for a 25-20 match clinching win.

Sydney Johnson led the Trailblazers with a match and career-high 18 kills along with four total blocks and three digs, while To'a Faleao added 14 kills with five blocks and two digs. Jordyn Nelson posted a double-double with 22 assists and 13 digs, and Mykenna Nelson tallied a match-high 20 digs.

Dixie State hit .113 in the match with 48 kills and collected 11 team blocks.

Dixie State will close out its four-match RMAC road trip Saturday night at Fort Lewis in Durango beginning at 5 p.m.
