AZUSA, Calif. – In the second match of a weekend road swing, the Dixie State women's volleyball team bounced back with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-21) win at Azusa Pacific Saturday afternoon.
Lindsey Jones (Saint George, UT/Desert Hills) led with 15 kills and
Kendahl Weiland (Albany, OR/West Albany) added 12 to pace the Red Storm (16-7, 13-2). DSU hit .292 for the match and limited the Cougars (11-13, 7-8) to just .182 for the match.
Dixie State had to battle back several times to win it.
The first set was down to the wire after Dixie State trailed by seven midway through. The Red Storm put together a 6-1 run to claw back and then down three late, finished off the Cougars 7-2 to win set No. 3 25-23. Jones had six kills in the opening set.
DSU led the second set 13-6 before a five straight from Azusa Pacific made it interesting. The Cougars couldn't get any closer than two with Dixie State staying on the attack to win the second set 25-21 and move closer to another victory.
The Cougars made noise out of the gates in the third set, racing out to a 5-0 lead before Weiland got the Red Storm on the board with a kill. Later on, DSU trailed by five again but rallied back with its own 5-0 run to lead 17-13.
The Red Storm held off the Cougars again down the stretch to complete the sweep with a 25-21 in the third set.
Dixie State returns home next week for a busy week, hosting four matches, starting with Hawaii Hilo on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in St. George.
