ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Dixie State men's soccer team lost for the second time during its current four-match Pacific West Conference homestand – falling to BYU-Hawaii 2-1 on Thursday night from Hansen Stadium. The loss drops DSU to 2-5-2 on the season and 1-4-1 in the PacWest.

BYU-Hawaii seized control of the match early with a fifth minute goal from Colby Bauer. Seasider (3-3-2/1-2-1 PacWest) leading scorer Mike Moreno set it up off a well-placed corner kick.

In the 40th minute, Cam Neeley chipped in a goal over Tyler Walters (Ogden, UT/Ben Lomand) after a long pass by David Urbina forced the DSU goalkeeper out from the endline.

Dixie State cut the lead in half in the 77th minute. Wade Canon (Meridian, ID/Meridian) lined up a long-range free kick from the right side. His strike buzzed past teammates, defenders and the BYUH keeper into the left corner of the goal. For the home team, it was the last shot they put on goal as the BYUH offense kept possession on their side of the field.

Tempers and feeling flared toward the end of the match, and a late yellow card against Erik Shallenberger (Las Vegas, NV/Arbor View), his fifth of the season, will keep the junior out of DSU's next match on Saturday.

After an even 5-5 slate on shots in the first half, BYUH was the overall shot aggressor on the night (14-11).

Walters made five saves in net for Dixie State and the team got credit for a save stopping an 88th minute attempt.

Dixie State returns to action on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. against UH Hilo.
