Albretsen Golden Goal Gives DSC Win over Point Loma

Box Score

SAINT GEORGE – Tyler Albretsen (Pleasant View, UT/Weber) goal in the sudden-victory first overtime gave the Dixie State Colllege men's soccer team a 2-1 win over Point Loma Nazarene at Hansen Stadium.

Ryan Benevente found Albretsen with a nifty little touch pass that he deposited from 18 yards out into the right hand corner of the net for his first goal of the season.

The two teams played to a scoreless first half, despite the Red Storm having a 9-2 shot advantage.

In the 49th minute Francisco Garay (American Fork, UT/American Fork) found Jordan Roylance (Smithfield, UT/Sky View) on a breakaway goal from 10 yards out. It was Roylance's first goal of the season.

DSC seemed to be in control, until Gustavao Jimenez was centerfield and dribbled right and scored in the 71st minutes from 12 yards out to tie the match at 1-1. The two squads were scoreless for the final 19 minutes.

Dixie State outshot the Sea Lions 21-7 despite only scoring two goals. Tyler Walters (Ogden, UT/Ben Lomand) earned the victory in goal for Dixie State.

“It was a victory that our team really needed,” said head coach Danny Ortiz. “We have been executing but haven't been able to find the back of the net.”

Dixie State improved to 2-6-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the PacWest. Point Loma Nazarene dropped to 2-5 and 1-4 in the PacWest.

This was the first of six consecutive home games for Dixie State. They will host Hawaii Hilo on Monday afternoon at 4:30 pm at Hansen Stadium.
