Men's soccer dealt first conference loss

2-0 decision at HPU drops Dixie State to 6-1 in league

Box Score

KANEOHE, Hawaii – Two first half goals for host Hawaii Pacific University put a stain on Dixie State's unblemished conference record on Wednesday. HPU defeated the Red Storm 2-0 in Pacific West Conference action.

Dixie State dropped to 7-4-2 on the year and 6-1 in league, while the Sea Warriors improved to 11-4, 8-2 in the PacWest.

“(It was) a tough loss, but we played well,” DSC Head Coach Danny Ortiz said. “The guys know we played good enough to win and are eager to get back on the field.”

The Red Storm were outshot 18-10 on the match, thanks in part to a slow start.

Ortiz said, “We struggled with our footing early on and it was hard to find a rhythm in the first 15 minutes.”

Tyler Walters (Ogden, UT/Ben Lomand) faced 14 shots, making saves on 12 of them. Tyler Albretsen (Pleasant View, UT/Weber) had four of the 10 DSC shots.

The Red Storm close out its trip in Hawaii on Saturday against Chaminade – match begins at 6:30 p.m. Mountain.
